Preventing Tooth Decay with Chocolate and Orarex Toothpaste

My professor for environmental science got off track today and told us a story that I decided to investigate.

Apparently, these mothers in a school district wanted to get rid of the chocolate in the school vending machines because they would feed their children healthy snacks, like raisins, at home, but at school they could not control what their children bought.  Hershey Chocolate decided to conduct a study to see what foods caused tooth decay.  The results were so shocking to the parents that they had the study repeated by a dental organization. The results were the same: dried fruit and other healthy snacks cause more tooth decay than the chocolate.

The reason?  Fruit is highly acidic, which is dangerous for teeth.

This is what Smile Creator has to say about chocolate and tooth decay:
“Dark chocolate has a high proportion of cocoa solids and will, therefore, retain more of the nutritional value of cocoa than milk chocolate which has a lower proportion of cocoa solids. The other good news is that tannin in cocoa may help to prevent tooth decay by reducing the growth of plaque because the oxalic acid in chocolate appears to lower acid production.”

However, eating fruits are important for getting the proper nutrition.  They say that it is safe to eat these snacks daily as long as you have good oral hygiene.

And now, a fact about our toothpastes and mouthwashes:
"* Chemicals in toothpaste are responsible for drying out tissues in the mouth and could lead to canker sores
 * Most mouthwashes can be harmful or fatal if swallowed
 * Fluoride overused can cause mottling (a tooth disease), cancer, renal or kidney failure and more
 * Chemicals found in bathroom disinfectants are used in some mouthwashes
 * Ammonia, formaldehyde, and hydrogen peroxide are common ingredients in mouthwash"

Organic toothpastes are gaining popularity.  The ingredients are natural, and the cost is pretty much the same as a regular toothpaste.

Unicity’s Orarex is an organic toothpaste

How to use: http://www.usa.makelifebetter.com/images/usage/19502_u.jpg

“Much more than an ordinary toothpaste, Orarex Maximum Care Formula (MCF) is a homeopathic medicine that provides systemic treatment of sensitive and bleeding gums, pyorrhea, tooth decay and mouth odor and cleans your teeth and gums” -Unicity International

Orarex has got to be the hardest Unicity product to pronounce (it ends up "Ora-ra-ra-ra-rarex"), but the same time, it's very good for people who have sensitive teeth.

So, the advice for the day: Enjoy some chocolate and don’t forget to brush your teeth (with the organic Orarex!)

Ning.
