Working

Staring up at the night sky, this is the first time you have stepped outside today.  Or perhaps you have been out all day.  Either way, you are sleepy and anxious to return home after a day’s work.

Maybe you’re a student and you work to pay for college.  You study, you work, you sleep and eat.  “It’s all on you.”  College isn’t going to pay for itself; and mom and dad don’t have the resources to help you.

Escaping into your thoughts as you drive along the streetlight-lined city, you tell yourself that you are not alone.  But day by day, you feel the routine of your life building stress on your heart.  Everyday is the same, and the pattern of life reveals your loneliness.

Of course, it’s worth it.  You have to support yourself.  Or maybe you have to also support your family.  Bills keep you in line by the month.  Financial freedom is only a far-off dream.

During the day, it’s not such a worry.  Work is work.  You do what you have to. Why does society force us into the conventional way of life?  College for four years, and then working at a job for the rest of your life.

There’s got to be more to life than this conventional way.

  1. the conventional way doesn't have to be so dull though. if you get a job that you like, you'll never work a day in your life. the "conventional way" is as boring as you and your choices make it for yourself. ;)
